Tasting notes
Muscat Blanc, Moscatto, Muscat Cannelli, Muscat Blanc A Petite Grains -- whatever it is called, White Muscat is a classic wine grape. It may in fact be the oldest variety in the world. The Greeks called White Muscat, "uva apiana" or "grape of the bees." Its characteristic aroma certainly attracts bees to Wilridge's organic and biodynamic vineyard on Naches Heights.
Wilridge's 2009 Estate Muscat Blanc is made in the style of a classic French Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise desert wine. The Muscat grapes were crushed by foot and pressed by hand on October 18, 2009. Fermentation proceeded until October 22nd when brandy was added to stop the fermentation at 12 degrees brix residual sugar. The resulting wine hints of orange blossoms on the nose while the mid-palate is rich and satisfying. It will accompany many deserts and cheeses, or may even serve as desert on its own. Bon appetite!
