1997 |
|
||||
| Klipsun Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot $29 | |||||
| 1997 was another fabulous year for Klipsun
Vineyards. The 1997 Merlot is similar to the 1996 that was listed among "Best
American Merlots" by the Wine Enthusiast magazine and rated 92 points. The
Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps our favorite wine of the vintage; it has the
structure one expects from Klipsun as well as the dark fruit flavors that
are a signature of Washington Cabernets.

| Mélange (Bordeaux Blend) $29 | |||||
| Spring Valley Merlot and Cabernet Franc
form the primary blend for our 1997 Melange, with a splash of Klipsun Cabernet
for structure and Klipsun Merlot for extra complexity. The final blend took
its inspiration from St. Emilion: 56% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Franc, and 11%
Cabernet Sauvignon. We like it even more than the 1996 Melange, which received
90 points from the Wine Spectator.

| Corral Creek Vineyard Oregon Pinot Noir $29 | |||||
Winemaker Paul Beveridge added Burgundy varietals to the
Wilridge repertoire of Bordeaux-inspired red wines with the first Wilridge
Oregon Pinot Noir. The grapes come from Corral Creek Vineyard on Rex Hill
at the Northern end of the Willamette Valley. 1997 was a tough year for many
Oregon vineyards, but the Corral Creek fruit ripened well and was picked
one day before the rains started. The grapes may be from Oregon, but the
wine exhibits the distinctive Wilridge style of ripeness and concentration
with firm tannins for long term aging. This is no wimpy Pinot!
The wine also presented an opportunity for our friend Isa F. D'Arleans to design a new label. Status: Sold out |

| Klipsun Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon $29 | |||||
| A blockbuster Cabernet that will develop in the bottle for at least ten years. Aged in new French-oak. Status: Sold out | |||||

| Klipsun Vineyards Merlot $32 | |||||
| The winter freeze
reduced Merlot yields at Klipsun to less than one ton per acre and we produced
only two barrels. The results are apparent in the glass - this wine has huge
fruit concentration - perhaps the best Klipsun Merlot ever.
